Fall Classic Game 7 Attracts 51M Viewers In the United States, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The nail-biting extra-inning matchup where the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a combined 51 million viewers in the United States, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB reported this is the most-watched World Series Game 7 since the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest drew 27.33 million viewers on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It additionally is the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This marks a 16% increase over the previous Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed 4th, Game 4 ranked 7th, the fifth game came in 8th, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth place.

International Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game drew over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English-language broadcast in Canada since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – drew over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Trends

The full seven-match series recorded over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen audience growth for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the complete US average reached 16.1 million. The overall Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09M watchers, an 8% rise compared to last year and the network’s strongest postseason ratings since 2017.

Major League Baseball stated that the World Series was televised in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different tongues.
